Last night, yMusic joined filmmaker Sam Green for a special performance of his new work, The Biggest-Smallest. An Academy Award-nominated documentary director, Sam has lately turned to a new form he calls “live documentary,” and yMusic was lucky enough to participate in his latest piece. The film tells the story of the Guinness Book of World Records, and profiles some its record holders. yMusic played excerpts of pieces from Beautiful Mechanical by Sarah Kirkland Snider and Annie Clark, as well as relatively new pieces by Marcos Balter, Mark Dancigers, Nico Muhly, Sufjan Stevens and Jeremy Turner. The film was commissioned by EMPAC and presented by Rooftop Films and the River to River Festival, as part of a special curation by Laurie Anderson! We look forward to working with Sam again, and encourage you to check out his work here.
